Instagram Said to Be Working on ‘Latest Shares’ Feature That Lets Users Discover, Reshare Older Reels Easily
If you’re an avid Instagram user, you’ll be excited to know that the social media platform is reportedly working on a new feature called “Latest Shares,” which will allow users to easily search for and rediscover previously shared Reels in Direct Messages.
According to a tweet by Turkish tipster Dijital Aglar, Instagram is currently beta testing the feature, which would display recently shared Reels between users on the DM page. The feature could include an additional row in the DM page with avatars of the friends with whom you shared a Reel, making it easier to access and reshare previously shared Reels with other friends later.
TechCrunch was able to confirm the feature with a Meta spokesperson, reporting that if users share one short video multiple times, it will only be displayed once alongside the avatar of the user the short video was last shared with.
Instagram’s focus on short videos is seen as a response to the growing popularity of rival short video sharing platform TikTok. The company has also recently announced that video posts shorter than 15 minutes in duration will be shared as a Reel, expanding the scope of collaborative features like Remix on Reels.
While the release date of the “Latest Shares” feature remains unclear, we’re excited to see what Instagram has in store for its users. Stay tuned!
